Grain Fabrics in Turbidite Sandstone Beds and Their Relation to Sole-mark Trends on Same Beds

چکیده

definition of carbonate sediments to include those containing more than SO per cent carbonate minerals, many new parameters can be studied and new and useful information can be incorporated in studies of carbonate rocks. It is obvious that, by enlarging the definition, consideration of insoluble residues and stratigraphic associations is possible. Further, the geographic range of carbonate sediments is enlarged, permitting study of a wider variety of environmental conditions. Finally, a greater variation in thickness of Recent carbonate sediments is found, a fact which should allow a better understanding of sedimentation rates.

Deposits from Wave-influenced Turbidity Currents: Pennsylvanian Minturn Formation, Colorado, U.s.a

Turbidity currents generated nearshore have been suggested to be the source of some sandy marine event beds, but in most cases the evidence is circumstantial. Such flows must commonly travel through a field of oscillatory flow caused by wind-generated waves; little is known, however, about the interactions between waves and turbidity currents. We explore these interactions through detailed proc...

Lowermost Cambrian Ichnofabrics from the Chapel Island Formation, Newfoundland: Implications for Cambrian Substrates

Bioturbation long has been ‘blamed’ for eliminating late Proterozoic-style sedimentary structures and fabrics. While the presence of diverse and complex burrows in lowermost Cambrian strata is indisputable, analysis of Precambrian– Cambrian successions in southeast Newfoundland demonstrate that this burrowing style did not produce typical Phanerozoic-style ichnofabrics. Three hundred meters of ...

Ten turbidite myths

During the past 50 years, the turbidite paradigm has promoted many myths related to deep-water turbidite deposition. John E. Sanders (1926–1999), a pioneering process sedimentologist, first uncovered many of these turbidite myths. This paper provides a reality check by undoing 10 of these turbidite myths. Myth No. 1: turbidity currents are non-turbulent flows with multiple sediment-support mech...

Dynamics of a Transgressive Prodeltaic System: Implications for Geography and Climate within a Pennsylvanian Intracratonic Basin, Colorado, U.s.a

Detailed sedimentological analysis of a prodeltaic turbidite unit within the Pennsylvanian Minturn Formation provides insight into the nature of fan-delta deposition, and allows reconstruction of paleogeographic and paleoclimatic conditions within a tectonically active cratonic basin. The formation, a thick succession of fan-delta deposits, exhibits a complex stratigraphic architecture of alluv...

Brown macroalgae flora on the coastline of Bushehr province counties

Marine brown macroalgae are an important part of the tidal coaste flora in Bushehr province with rocky, coral and sandstone beds. Brown seaweeds need a solid and stable support (natural or artificial) to be attached algae holdfasts to the them, ensuring their establishment for growth, multiplication and development against violent waves. Because of this, most macroalgae are not able to grow on ...
